Our Vision
At GrazerImproFest, we create a space for creative development and spontaneous collaboration. Our aim is to promote personal experiences and inspire people through improvisation. Together we work across disciplines and break new ground in the arts.

OBERDECK #22: Mirjam Schrei (AT)
Moments. An undefined unit of time – fleeting and yet sometimes eternal.
In her series of paintings entitled “Atmosphere of the Moment”, Mirjam Schrei explores the connection between photography and painting and examines the process of remembering. The works
are based on photographs from her archive and capture the fleeting character of personal experiences.

Alica Minar (CZE) + Tim Winter (DE)
If we openly share our desires, what will happen? And what will happen if we start to fulfill them, on stage, in the audience? How would their confession change the very moment and the social setting we’re part of NOW, among friends, strangers, comrades?

Julia & Michael Walk (AT) + Gabriel Huth (AT)
This dinner performance explores the tension between rules and improvisation in the cooking process and invites guests to become active participants in the creative transformation of ingredients and recipes. The structure of the evening is not determined in advance , but develops in real time through the dynamics between the chefs, guests, space and ingredients.

Andrea Gava (ITA) + Grazer Impro Klub
The GIK – Grazer Impro Klub sees itself as a platform for the preservation, consolidation and cultivation of the musical practice of improvisation and genre-free musical experimentation.

Jugend am Werk – Work in progress
Schaumbad is actively involved in this process by including artists with disabilities in its programs – with the GIF as the leading series in terms of inclusion.

Susa Kern (AT)
Individual frames are designed and made from used spectacle parts.
The focus is on improvisation and creative design.

George Cremaschi (USA/CZE)
…works with a variety of approaches and strategies in the areas overlapping music, sound art and noise.

B the Beat (AT)
Dance battle with impro flow!
dancers will perform to live improvised music. The focus is on the exchange with the musicians as well as the possibility of a “connection” with each other.
The “audience” and all the people in the room ultimately become active performers and are invited to get involved in this musical journey and create new movements!

Corinna Eikmeier (DE)
What are the interactions between the quality of movement in music-making and the quality of improvisation? Aspects relevant to improvisation from two research projects will be presented.

The Kumberg Gatherers
The core is expressing itself at the moment without structures or concepts. In terms of content, this evening is open and can develop in any direction, depending on which influences are currently present and determine the path…

Maria Gstättner (AT) + Stefan Heckel (AT)
In this lecture performance, Maria Gstättner talks about her experience of how sound becomes a medium in free improvisation – a fleeting mediator between body and space, an impulse for transformation. It is about those moments in which the inexplicable takes shape and condenses into sound, breath and silence.

The Styrian Improvisers Orchestra (STIO) is a dynamic ensemble based in Graz, Austria, dedicated to exploring the boundaries of free and conducted improvisation.

Rixard Tattoo merges tattooing and performance, exploring the concept of the abject and the interplay between attraction and repulsion.
