Anna Sophia Defant is a pianist, improviser, singer and composer originally from Saalfelden am Steinernen Meer (Salzburg). She studied piano at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna (mdw).
Her musical development led her from classical to contemporary music and avant-garde jazz to freely improvised music.
In her improvisational ensemble work as well as in her compositions, she emphasizes chamber music structures as well as clear and straightforward phrases developed from the situation, which often transition abruptly into strangely intimate spheres.

Even her studies in jazz and popular music have not been able to drive the devil out of her characterful style on the drums.
Especially live, her distinctive energy is palpable and undeniable.
It is only the style that is characteristic and not the genre.
